Charlie, I think you mentioned Thomas Paine earlier on Lucid. Steve Schmidts substack The Warning, July 5 quotes the entirety of his Decemer 23 1776 letter. Fascinating read!
Thank you Randolph!! Thomas Paine is an interesting study in and of himself it seems. His letter, thoughtful and flowing tells much. I had lived in NJ and know those spaces. His accounting of the movement and struggle of accuracy in movement of troops is a fascinating record. And yes, no GPS. Thank you for the link!! Appreciate.
It was ingrained citizenry ~ maybe taught in social studies or citizenry classes? A ray of hope, last month my village installed two brand-new metal flag disposal boxes, handsome and respectable - one at village hall and one at the local police headquarters. Maybe someone is on to the concept of flag etiquette MIA. I'm with you for sure the American Legion is a unparalleled national treasure!
Wow, that's so right -- it was the battlefield GPS. And required the greatest courage to hold. I look at the flag almost like a person in room, you show respect and have placement for that person/ (flag). Flag etiquette is like Mother's Day, you just show tender respectful care.
Enjoyed this Jan. So true in many respects. Thank you.
Proper care of the Flag is becoming a lost art. The American Legion used to replace and properly dispose of worn American flags.

Just saw a standard size flag in a large closet sideways. Yikes.
